Overtime Elite vs. Mega: Prospect Breakdown
A deep dive into the film to discuss the play of Amen Thompson, Ausar Thompson and Nikola Djurisic from their September scrimmage
Every year, the newest draft cycle seems to start with international competition. Their seasons begin far before the November college tipoffs, giving prospects playing overseas a chance to make initial impressions upon scouts without competing for their attention.
That’s why it was a wise decision for the Overtime Elite program to pack their bags and head overseas for a few weeks, participating in a tour where they would face various professional programs. The clear best game on their schedule: a scrimmage against Mega Basket, a Serbian pro team that has featured prospects such as Nikola Jovic (2022 NBA Draft), Filip Petrusev (2021), Marko Simonovic (2020) and Goga Bitadze (2019). The newest star for the Mega program is Nikola Djurisic, a 6’8” scoring wing with a smooth shot and skill off the bounce.
Going against another proven team with legitimate draft prospects is something the Overtime Elite program doesn’t get often, making this an opportunity for scouting with a more reliable base of comparison. Both Amen and Ausar Thompson, lauded by some as potential top-five picks, need to maximize their chances against other pro prospects, and they did so in this outing against Mega.
We spent some time diving into the film from the contest and how it matches up with the samples we got from each prospect last year. Were there any areas that were improved? What are the swing skills for each prospect? What did they do in this game and how did they counter defenses?
We’ll dive into it all for Amen, Ausar, and Djurisic here.
